The Power of Forgiveness

Rae Theotis Carruth is a convicted felon and former American football wide receiver. After playing college football at Colorado, Carruth was drafted in the first round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League and spent three seasons with the team. He is a convicted felon because he orchestrated the murder of his girlfriend Cherica Adams and their unborn son. It was 12:31 a.m. on Nov. 16, 1999, when Cherica Adams – pregnant, near death and moaning in pain from four gunshot wounds – made the 911 call that saved a life. Following Carruth in her car after they had just finish watching The Bone Collector, he stopped and a car pulled up on the side of her and shot at the car four times.

Carruth cowardly pulled off while her life slipped away from her. Adams survived long enough for the doctors to perform an emergency C-section to deliver Chancellor Lee Adams .  Carruth denied his involvement and was sentenced to a mere 19 years. He was released Oct 22 and whisked away to an unknown location. In my opinion with the evidence found clearly points to him and him not wanting to pay child support.

He has mention that he wants a relationship with his son. Chancellor has been raised by Cherica Adams mother Saundra all his life. The 19-year-old Adams has brain damage and cerebral palsy as a result of his mother’s shooting. Saundra said she forgives Carruth because she had to if she wanted to love all of Chancellor. Listening to her speak I was really touched profoundly.

If I was in her shoes I just don’t know if I could forgive the man who took my daughter’s life and who changed my and attempted to kill my grandson but  instead changed the life and potential his son could have had. Are you guys familiar with this story??
